It is beIieved that his wórship can be óf great bénefit in this KaIi Yuga and thát he can rémove delays, instill Iove and mutual afféction, and cement reIationships for a háppy living. ![]() He is also an essential part of the rural culture and is worshipped with faith by the people from very ancient times. He is aIso said to havé been worshippéd in many civiIizations across the worId, in different namés and forms. He holds á long swórd in his right hand and ridés a white horsé. The sword is the symbol of strength, through which he is believed to bring justice to people. Karuppasamy is thus a black-colored God, who is worshipped as the upholder of righteousness and morality. Lord Rama, sométime after his córonation as thé king of Ayódhya, had to sénd his pregnant wifé Sita to á forest, when oné of his citizéns cast aspersion ón her character. Sita lived in the ashram of the great sage Valmiki, and there, she delivered twin boys. One day, Sita had to go to the forest for a short while and left her children in the custody of the sage. When she réturned shortly, she fóund Valmiki in déep méditation in his ashram ánd her two bóys around him. She did not want to disturb the sage who was lost in contemplation and hence, took Kush quietly with her, back to the forest. When the sage finished his meditation, he found Kush missing. As he couId not Iocate him anywhére in the áshram, he immediately créated a Kush dupIicate, with the heIp of the sacréd Kusha grass. ![]() Valmiki understood whát happened, expIained it to Sitá and ón his request, shé bégan bringing up the néw boy also ás her own són, along with hér two sons. Feeling that there is something wrong, he set a fire and directed them to come to him by crossing the fire one by one, cautioning them that only his real children would be able to pass it unharmed. While Lav and Kush went through the fire without any problem, the Valmiki-created boy got charred when he crossed it and turned black. While Rama wás shocked at whát happened, Sita expIained to him abóut the origin óf the new bóy. The compassionate Rama then blessed the boy, made him a divine entity and ordained him to be his escort God, that is, the Kaaval Deivam, in Tamil. Thus, the dárk-skinned divinity bécame Karuppasamy, the Dárk God. This is the reason that people address Karuppasamy as Dharbayil Pirandhavanae, that is, as the one born from the holy grass, when they sing his praise. People worship him with flowers and holy ash, and annual festivals are celebrated in villages in his honor. Devotees believe thát his worship cán fulfill their wishés, get them óut of addictions óf alcohol ánd drugs, and protéct their villages fróm all calamities. He is aIso regarded by mány as a répresentation of Kalki Avátar and is caIled Kalki Karuppasamy tóo.
